if this hot face caught your eye, this book will, too. <3
Hey guys!! It's currently our finals week and a week before Christmas break. So it's only going to be a short while until I post the rest of my drafted posts. :D
This book review's going to be a special one because it's my favorite book's. Well, at the moment, it is. I haven't read any new books since this one because I just couldn't move on. Haha! I can't get over the story, and the male freaking protagonist! It's like I was the female protagonist as I read the trilogy.
So um, some of you might have guessed it already. It's.. 50 SHADES OF GREY.
Yes, the 50 shades trilogy that's commonly known for its erotic content, but that's not why I love the darn book. Well, maybe that's not the only reason why I love the book. Haha!
At first, when I heard my friends reading 50 shades, I judged instantly and thought that they wanted to read the trilogy because of the erotic parts. But then, I grew curious of why it's been really favored by lots of ladies, so I gave it a try.
When I started reading the first book, I found it entertaining already. What made it more entertaining is the kilig effect it has. From the moment Anastasia Steele fell in Christian Grey's office, I grew interest in it already. So um, you can say that I love cheezy stories.. ALOT. Haha!
When the erotic parts started, it wasn't much of a big deal for me. Yes, I read some of those parts (although, when I started the 2nd book, I skipped through those scenes and just read the dialogues), but it really wasn't that big of a deal. Probably since I didn't gave those much attention and because I only focused on their love story or the story itself. So I didn't gave those scenes malice. I swear, if you gave the story more focus rather than the erotic scenes, the trilogy's awesome. :D
As usual, I read the trilogy in my cellphone through an ebook reader app for androids. I read it for almost 2 weeks and I highlighted and noted hundreds of lines from each book. That's how much I loved it! There were those times that I squealed over a super sweet scene and I end up wishing I was Anastasia (and that the fictitious story's real); there were also times that I would punch the air or a pillow or a stuffed toy, just anything soft because of the kilig. Haha! It was really, really worth it, for me. :D
Since it's a trilogy, and some might think (like me at first) that the trilogy's all about sex and makeouts, here's my short description for each of the book:
50 Shades of Grey
This book is more of Lust because it's when their relationship isn't much developed and settled yet.
50 Shades Darker
This book is more about their Love. It's when their relationship's settled and decided already.
When it comes to sweetness, cheezyness, and mushy moments, this is my favorite book of the trilogy.
And lastly,
50 Shades Freed
And this book is more Intense. Because.. Well, you're going to have to read it to know why. Haha! If I tell you, I'm going to be a huge spoiler. ;)
Oh, and when it comes to touching scenes, and scenes that can get you all teary-eyed, this is the book. *thumbs and toes up*
So there! 50 freaking shades of hot, and beautiful Christian Grey. I strongly recommend everyone to read it. Obviously because it's my favorite. Haha! And there's that one situation in the story, in the character of Christian Grey and his past that made me feel connected to him. The things or feelings I had that I didn't knew how to describe became clear because of his character and his story. Only the peeps who've read the trilogy can guess what it is. :)
50 shades trilogy: 18/10 :bd
Oh! And if you're wondering who the beautiful man in the top of my post is, that's Jamie Dornan. A.k.a. The Christian Grey of the upcoming 50 shades movie. Hot, isn't he? I was originally voting for Channing Tatum. But then, when I saw his pictures from the set, I had the feeling that he fits the role well. :D
But Dakota Johnson though... I don't know. Haha! Hope you guys enjoyed this post!
Here's another picture of Jamie beautiful Dornan for a beautiful ending to this post. Haha! <3
I don't own the pictures. :)
Man, I've been so busy the past weeks. To be honest, it's our midterms week this week, and.. The first half of the term's not doing quite well. I mean, it's not that I'm failing, it's just that I have this feeling that I'm not going to get the grades that I target on having. I really hope I can pull my grades really up through the midterm exams and through the other half of the term. I know I can. It's just that.. During the first half of this term, I haven't been motivated. During lectures, my mind slips away; I get scared of reciting (when I wasn't before); I wish for free-cuts almost everyday; and I get sleepy during some classes. But as of now, specifically, today, I'm starting to get motivated again, and hopefully, the motivation lasts until the end of my College life. Haha! :)
Oh, and if you're wondering why I'm blogging although it's midterms week, it's because my block's been dismissed early today of free-cut (Free-cut is getting your class dismissed when the professor doesn't show up after the half of your class's schedule had passed. For example: your class is from 1:00PM to 2:00PM and your professor doesn't show up in 30 minutes: that is indeed, a free-cut). :)
So aaanyway! I've read 4 books already and I'm going to share my review of all of them.
So far, the best ones I've read are still TFIOS (The Fault in Our Stars), and LFA (Looking for Alaska). My recent reads aren't as touching as TFIOS and LFA, but they're good. The stories are still cute. Lol. Haha!
So here they are:
The Abundance of Katherines by John Green.
For me, this book of John Green isn't as great as TFIOS and LFA. The scenes weren't really exciting, and most of the time, the story only tells about Colin's formula for dumpees and dumpers (Colin is the male protagonist). Yes, he made this formula that will tell the road of one's relationship, the length of the relationship, and whether the person's going to be the dumpee or the dumper. I thought the formula part was cool because in some point, I could relate, but honestly, in most points, I really don't. HAHA. I probably didn't get them because I felt bored reading the texts about the formula. So the details didn't sink much in my brain. I mean seriously, there even are pictures of his graphs and you can see tons of Parabolas. I didn't really get the formulas even when it's already been explained through text. Sad, I know. Haha! So again, the scenes weren't really exciting. Most of the time are just talks and trips, and the only part I felt excited about was when Leslie's (Leslie is the female protagonist) boyfriend fought with everyone in the garden. And... That's just it. The story was good, probably great for readers who like talks about formulas and more on just.. Talks. But the story is good. :) Oh, and one thing I observed: John Green used a Third Person point of view in this book. :)
Sammie rating. :)
The Abundance of Katherines: 5/10
Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella.
This book is really cute for me. The romance in this book is between a multimillionaire boss (Jack) and a regular assistant (Emma). I loved how I could relate in some parts of the story regarding secrets. Hahaha! Besides that, I loved the dialogues. Jack's dialogues are formal, which makes it sexy, mhm.
Example:
Emma: "Everyone was laughing at me. Everyone was teasing me, in the whole office. Artemis (female antagonist) was teasing me-"
Jack: "I'll fire her,"
Emma: "And Nick was teasing me-"
Jack: "I'll fire him too." "How about this: anyone who teased you, I'll fire."
See!! It's such a turn-on!! It's like I was focusing on Jack 3/4s of the freaking story.. Haha! Kidding. :) but really, the dialogues caught me, and I found the story great too. :)
Sammie rating. :)
Can You Keep a Secret?: 8/10
Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella.
This story's good too, but I thought "Can You Keep a Secret"'s better. :) I like how Sophie made some characters's personalities and attitudes realistic. It made me realize things and it made me sure of my preferences. Example of characters:
Lexi (female protagonist): has flaws = given names and is bullied or is teased, rather = did surgery.
Eric: rich, handsome = jerk
Or maybe these kind of characters are just common.. Haha. Doesn't matter, I liked the book and that's it. It wasn't really great, but it's great. :))
Sammie rating. :)
Remember Me?: 7/10
Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen.
This book is the same as the movie. As in totally the same. I read the whole book, having the "Flipped" movie's characters's voices narrating in my mind. Haha! If you haven't watched the movie, the style of the movie is a narration. The characters narrate what they're thinking, but there are still a few dialogues as well. :) I highly suggest you read the book first, before watching the movie because almost everything written in the book is in the movie. :)
but all in all, they are both great. The story's cute; It's about crushes and love in the young age. It'll make you think like "I was like that?" and "I was so silly before". Haha! :)
Sammie rating. :)
Flipped: 10/10
And that's all I've read. I'm currently reading "Confessions of a Shopaholic" by Sophie Kinsella, and I'm planning on finishing the whole series. Once I've done reading the series, if I don't find any book that seems cool, I'll most probably try reading Nicholas Sparks's other books that I haven't read, nor watched. :)
Hope you enjoyed this post. Have a nice day! xx.

What happens when a blockmate tells a great story of a book he/she had read?
You get persuaded and you try reading the darn book too.
Yes, that happened to me. Sammie Ng now reads novels through e-books!!
I read "Why We Broke Up" by Daniel Handler the night after my blockmate told me about the story. She reads through her cellphone too, using ibooks. Honestly, it wasn't just the story that persuaded me. A larger part that convinced me was the the virtual shelf with thumbnail-sized books and their pretty covers that she'd read that appeared as if a collection. I like collecting random things and as of now, electronic books on my cellphone are what I'm collecting. Why We Broke Up was really great. I love the idea of putting pictures of the specific thing on the box that Min (female protagonist in the story) is going to return to Ed (male protagonist. Or antagonist.. I don't know, they freaking broke up okay? And it was probably the saddest break-up that Min had and will ever experience. OMG READ THE FREAKING BOOK). The first parts of the books were good already. It's not boring like the previous books I tried reading but eventually gave up on, because for each Chapter/ thing that was in the box of the things that she's going to return to Ed, she narrated what happened that day and how she felt the whole time. The Climax though, and obviously, was the greatest part of all. It was WHY and HOW they broke up, and it gave me goosebumps! Do you know that feeling when you read a tension-filled part of the book and you suddenly feel like reading it really fast because you really want to know what will happen after? Yep, that was the feeling that gave me interest to read more books.. I wanted to feel that what-the-hell-will-freaking-happen-next feeling over and over again because it was so exciting. It's like I've never been that excited for years already. Hahaha! :)
Sammie rating. :)
When We Broke Up: 8/10
The second book I've read is "The Fault in our stars" by John Green. I wanted to read that book for years (ever since it trended), and I've only read it last month. Well, better late than never, right? Haha! Honestly, I wanted to read the book because the I found the cover really cool, and lots of my Hipster friends liked it (not hipster. "Indie" is acceptable). It's a really sad story, and it almost made me tear up because the story was really sad. I knew there was obviously going to be a twist in the story, but I didn't expect the twist to be like that! I want to blurt out things and my reactions about the story but.. I won't be a spoiler for the while. HAHA. Please please please read!!

The Fault in Our Stars: 10/10
The last one I finished reading is "Looking for Alaska" by John Green also. I've heard alot of great remarks about John Green books so I decided reading his top books. I saw in lots of sites that LFA (Looking for Alaska) came in second best, so I read it. And, well, they're absolutely right. I swear, it's like a liberated version of TFIOS (The Fault in Our Stars) since the setting was in a College school in Alabama with College kids, and you know how College goes (or maybe you don't).. Things change, kids mature/ grow older, they try different things; Basically, they experiment. So anyway, I didn't like the setting at first, because it seemed, I don't know, it gave me lazy afternoon feels, and it's probably because John Green, through Miles Halter, described Culver Creek Preparatory High School in Alabama as a hot, and tropical place. It made me imagine a school in the middle of the desert, blah, but as I continued on with the story, it became better and better until the Climax again, of course, and even the falling action was exciting because they were.. Um.. Investigating and trying to figure out things.. HA! I did not spoil anything. Hahaha! Oh, and after I read LFA, I was kind of hung over. I couldn't get over the story so easily because for me, it was really good. :)

Looking for Alaska: 10/10
And right now, I'm currently reading "Abundance of Katherines" by John Green, still. So far, so good. The first part didn't seem really exciting, but as of now, the story's getting more interesting. :) the first thing I noticed though, is that John Green used a Third Person point of view in narrating the novel. In his previous books that I've read, he used a First Person point of view. I prefer the First Person POV because it kinda gives more "feels". Haha! I planned on reading "Paper Towns" too, but when I looked up the story, it didn't fit my interest. It was about crime, then romance. It just didn't gave me excitement. :/
I'm also planning on reading 50 shades of Grey. And no, not for the reasons you're thinking. *glares at you* some of my friends have read it, and they say the story's good. But I don't know, I don't want to feel like I'm reading porn or naked lady magazines, blergh. HAHA. I'll probably check out Sophie Kinsella books first since it has great comments and her books look like hard-bounded chick flicks. :)
'Till my next book post! xx.
