Banana leaf Asian Cafe :)
Thursday, November 21, 2013Hey guys!! :) So a week ago, my parents and I went to the mall for no apparent reason but to just stroll around. We were supposed to eat at "Lugang Cafe", but we've eaten there a bunch of times already and in that specific mall too. We were supposed to give "House of Katsu" a try, but my parents aren't fans of Japanese food. We finished checking the menus of each restaurant in the second floor and we still haven't decided where to eat, so we went to the 3rd floor and there, we found Banana Leaf Asian Cafe.
To be honest, I thought I wouldn't like the food there because the place wasn't very attractive (I searched for images of the other branches and they looked better. So maybe the location of the branch in that mall was just not good) but I did. :)
Are you wondering why they called the cafe "Banana Leaf"? I wondered too, but then I came up with a guess. A very shallow guess, to be exact. :)) I guessed that maybe they called the place Banana Leaf because people literally use Banana Leaves as their plates.
Very shallow, indeed. But if my guess is right, you guys better treat me there! Haha!
You don't need to eat using your hands there, but you can if you want. I wanted to try eating with my bare hands but eating like that in a mall seems inappropriate. Especially when your company is your parents.. Double inappropriate. So yes, the three of us ate using spoon and fork. :)
They served the rice in this container:
I think it's cute how they really tried to make the customers feel native and fresh, but the negative side to this is the bulkiness of the container. -.- Anyway, for the drinks, my mom and I tried out the Iced Lemon Grass drink.
It was okay. I didn't like it much because it was the kind of sweet that I didn't like; the kind of sweet that I can't describe. It fits well with the meals though. :)
For the meal, we ordered the Malayan Seafood Laksa.
Which tasted absolutely heavenly!! <3 if you know how "Sopas" tastes like, it tastes similar to this soup but spicier and it has more flavor. I craved so much for the soup after we drank all of it that I was tempted to lick the bowl. For me, this soup is 10/10, no hesitation. :D
We also ordered Stir Fried Clams in Singaporean Chili Sauce.
This order is good too. I loved the flavors and the Clams' texture, but the Clams were really few. It looked like alot, but there was only few (and most of them weren't in their shells anymore). This order would be better if the quantity is just as it looked. :)
We also ordered a Hainanese Chicken since the Clams were few. The Chicken was alright, but it wasn't as good as the Hainanese Chicken we ate in Wee Nam Kee. Probably because it isn't one of their specialties. :)
The meal was great and I'm still craving for the soup again. It was just so good and it tastes really good with rice. To be honest, I underestimated the restaurant because of its appearance. :/
Sammie rating. :)
Banana Leaf Asian Cafe: 8/10
Hope you enjoyed this native adventure! :)
